Myrtle Beach city staff are putting the finishing touches on a historic cemetery off 21stAvenue North, adjacent to the Convention Center.  New sod and landscaping have been installed, along with a new perimeter fence.  Grave markers were leveled, raised and painted, which was how they would have been presented originally.  The renovations make a world of difference to this hidden gem.  The city acquired the cemetery in 1992 in order to preserve it.  In all, 243 graves dating back to the mid-1930s were identified during a 2010 survey, although many were unmarked and unnamed.  Many African American military veterans from both World Wars, Korea and Vietnam are buried here.  An archway over the entrance is planned.
