Myrtle Beach Police Officer Jacob Hancher’s memory lives on with a new bridge named in his honor.  In ceremonies on Friday, August 5, the City of Myrtle Beach dedicated the “Patrolman Jacob Hancher Overpass” on Harrelson Boulevard at US 17.  Police Chief Amy Prock, Mayor Brenda Bethune and Jacob’s parents, Suzanne Williams and Jeffrey Hancher, all spoke lovingly of Jacob.  The community’s support of his friends and fellow police officers continues today, as indicated by the bridge naming in his honor.  Jacob’s family then rode to the bridge for the sign unveiling.  In all, Jacob served five years with the Myrtle Beach Police Department, first as community service officer, then a police officer.  He was shot and killed in the line of duty October 3, 2020, while responding to a domestic violence call.

"So much was taken from us,” his dad said.  “We lost a lifetime of memories.  We lost future grandkids.”
