The Mary C. Canty Recreation Center offers a bit of something for everyone, from school children to swimmers, and from weight-lifters to banquet-goers. The center includes a full-sized gymnasium, a well-equipped weight room, a banquet hall for 300, an indoor swimming pool and more. It’s also home to after-school and summer day camp programs for children. The center is named in honor of the late Mary C. Canty, in recognition of all that she did for the city. In fact, she originally sketched the idea for the recreation center on a napkin and then worked to make it a reality in the early 1980s. The center has been expanded twice, in 1989 and 2004, and received an exterior renovation in 2019.
