YEAR-ROUND PAID PARKING

Like most communities, Myrtle Beach has parking meters and pay-stations in areas where parking is in high demand.  These meters and pay-stations help to manage the public spaces so that more people can park, and they help create parking turnover in busy areas.  Parking meters also make it easy to identify which spaces are public.  By the way, parking meters were first installed in downtown Myrtle Beach in 1947; the Duncan Meter Company of Chicago installed 300 meters that year.

EXCLUSIONS

In South Carolina, any vehicle displaying a valid Handicap Placard, Purple Heart, Disabled American Veterans or Medal of Honor license tag, or a valid and official handicapped hang tag, may park for free at any public-operated parking meter.  If your vehicle displays one of these, then you do not have to pay a municipal parking meter anywhere in South Carolina.

In 2022, the South General Assembly extended free parking in publicly-owned metered spaces to newly-issued “military plates.”  The new plates have been available since May 6, 2022, to qualifying active-duty or prior-service military members.  Again, the free parking does not apply to military or veteran plates issued before May 6, unless they were Disabled American Veteran, Purple Heart or Medal of Honor plates, all of which are still eligible for free parking in public metered spaces.  To learn more about how to get a new military or veteran plate, visit the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles website.

METER LOCATIONS AND HOURS OF ENFORCEMENT
Parking Meter hours small

Paid parking is in effect from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. (midnight), seven days a week.  Many meters offer all-day parking for a single rate, but high traffic areas allow hourly parking with no set time limits or discount all-day rates.  Hourly rates vary depending on the location.  All-day meters clearly state that you can pay the meter for the whole day for a fixed rate, which compares favorably with private parking concessions.

Below are the parking meter and Pay Station rates....

A.  Beach Accesses & Street ends (City Wide) – Cost is $3.00 per hour, or $15.00 to park all day, on all street ends.

B.  Core Business District – Cost is $2.00 per hour, no all-day single rate:
  • All metered or signed parking on streets from (and including) Sixth to 16th Avenues North, between Ocean Boulevard and Kings Highway
C.  Secondary – Cost is $2.00 per hour, and $10 for all day parking:
  • All metered or signed parking on streets from 29th Avenue South to Sixth Avenue North, between Ocean Boulevard and Kings Highway
  • All metered or signed parking on streets from 16th Avenue North to 67th Avenue North, between Ocean Boulevard and Kings Highway

OTHER METER PAYMENT METHODS

All parking meters take U.S. coins (some also take credit and debit cards), while pay-stations accept coins, credit cards and debit cards, with some having the option for NFR/NFC payment.  At a pay-station, pay the machine for the amount of time you intend to stay, and then display the printed receipt clearly on your car's dash.  Special provisions exist for motorcycles, with specific instructions on the LED screen.  Please note that no more than two motorcycles may be parked at one time in any public parking space.

Also offered for all municipal parking are two smart phone options:  Text-2-Park (text) and Park-Mobile (app).  Text your Zone Number to 25023 for a contactless Payment option which is fast and easy, or download the Park-Mobile app on any smart device for payment through the app.  More information is on the Park-Mobile webpage.  Zone numbers and Text-2-Park numbers are on all Meters, Parking Signs and Pay Stations.

A seven-day visitor parking pass (see item number 3 below) is available for $50 from the Reef Parking Office in the Pavilion Parking Garage, located at 914 North Kings Highway.  The pass is good for seven consecutive days at all paid public metered parking areas throughout the city of Myrtle Beach.

A non-resident parking placard (see item 4 below) is available for $100 per year from the Reef Parking Office in the Pavilion Parking Garage.  This pass is good for public metered spaces, between Sixth Avenue South and 21st Avenue North, and in the metered street-ends, from 69th to 77th Avenues North.  This pass is not valid in "decal only" parking areas.

METER CITATION PAYMENT

Yes, we do enforce the parking meters during the dates and hours stated.  Citations for unpaid parking begin at $30.  If unpaid for 30 days, the fine increases to the maximum of $60.  (Note:  This change in the parking citation rate was approved April 28, 2015.)  Payments mailed must be postmarked by the 30th day.  Parking citations also may be paid through our Online Payment Center webpage with Visa or MasterCard, or by calling 843-626-PARK (7275).  Before appealing a parking meter citation, you must first pay the citation.  The parking meter appeal form is available online.  For more information, contact Reef Parking at 843-626-7275.
