Volleyball was the game in Myrtle Beach during the Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday weekend, as hundreds of teams from the Southeast filled both the Myrtle Beach Sports Center and the Convention Center. Some 280 teams took part in the annual Winter Bump Tournament, which occupied 200,000 square feet of floor space. Each venue had 16 volleyball courts in play at the same time, making for lively action everywhere you turned. The January tournament is a good example of off-season sports tourism. Including parents, coaches, spectators and players, thousands of people spent at least three days in Myrtle Beach as part of the tournament.
