Myrtle Beach looks at proposed new Master Plan for central business district

After six months of study, Benchmark Consultants presented a new Master Plan for Downtown Myrtle Beach at Tuesday’s City Council meeting.  The full report is available online at

The firm held numerous public meetings in the area and listened to business people and other stakeholders to get a sense for what would best jumpstart redevelopment.  The plan focuses on four districts:  Oceanfront, Kings Highway, Historic Main Street and an Arts District.  Recommendations include a new library and children’s museum, a new City Hall, a relocated art museum, a performing arts center, mixed use involving retail and residential properties, offices, apartments, an entryway feature and a central plaza or park feature.
