Myrtle Beach City Hall struck by lightning

AUGUST 8, 2022

Lightning struck! Myrtle Beach City Hall was struck by lightning during the strong storms that came through around 5:00 p.m. last night. Thankfully, no one was hurt. However, we can't say the same about our cupola.

Thank you to our Myrtle Beach Fire Department crews for their speedy response as staff began to smell smoke after the lightning strike. Besides the obvious cupola damage, we lost internet and about ten staff telephones needed to be replaced. Thank you to the talented Myrtle Beach IT team who had the internet up and running again by midnight, and replaced the phones before staff returned to work this morning.

Teamwork makes the dream work, and we are so appreciative of our #FirstinService employees who use their talents and skills to keep the city up and running.
