City of Myrtle Beach wins 'Community Champion Award'

AUGUST 4, 2022

The United Way of Horry County today honored Myrtle Beach city government with the 2021/22 Community Champion Award for the largest giving increase in the campaign’s public sector. Last year, city employees upped their personal giving by 133 percent over the previous year. Blakely Roof, executive director of the United Way, made the presentation during Tuesday’s City Council workshop. She also announced that – since 2001 – Myrtle Beach city employees have given $888,000 to the United Way to provide services in Horry County. Now that’s “first in service.” Pictured, left to right, are Fox Simons, Mark Kruea, Blakely Roof and Mayor Brenda Bethune.
