Myrtle Beach welcomes the US Marine Corps Parris Island Marine Band

MAY 3, 2022

Myrtle Beach welcomes the US Marine Corps Parris Island Marine Band to our Military Appreciation Days Parade on Saturday, May 28. We are thrilled to have this outstanding marching band in the Memorial Day weekend parade, which travels along Pampas Drive, Howard Avenue and Farrow Parkway.
The Parris Island Marine Band is one of the premier military bands in America. In 1915, the US Navy officially transferred Marine Corps recruit training to Parris Island, South Carolina. Among the first 750 Marines sent to Parris Island were the depot’s bandmaster, drum major and a group of musicians, who formed the first band. The musicians doubled as marksmanship and close combat instructors and provided support for units sent abroad.
Today, the Parris Island Marine Band travels the globe, providing music for military ceremonies, community events and more. Look for – and listen for – the US Marine Corps Parris Island Band in this year’s Military Appreciation Days Parade, which steps off at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 28. The parade is sponsored by the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and City of Myrtle Beach.
Following the parade, everyone’s invited to Valor Memorial Garden for the Big Family Picnic, with hamburgers and hotdogs, and all the trimmings, provided by the Omar Chefs Shriners. Visit military exhibitors and meet the members of the Parris Island Marine Band at the picnic.
