Make plans to enjoy a free documentary film at Grand 14, this Memorial Day

World War II hero Major Thomas Dry Howie is the subject of a new documentary film that will be presented at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 31, as part of Myrtle Beach’s Military Appreciation Days.  A South Carolina native, Major Howie’s leadership at the 1944 Battle of St. Lo led to the capture of that French city after D-Day.

Historian Rod Gragg, director of the United Bank Center for Military & Veterans Studies at Coastal Carolina University, produced the documentary, “The Major of St. Lo.”  The film will be shown at the Grand 14 Cinemas in The Market Common, along with a recognition of veterans and active-duty military, patriotic music and a color guard.  Admission to the film is free.
