Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand are thrilled to be receiving a new beach this fall.  The renourishment is part of a federal project to restore the sand that Mother Nature took away, especially during Hurricane Matthew two years ago.  The city alone is receiving $24 million worth of emergency work that essentially doubles the width of the beach, as you can see in these photos.  Sand is picked up from offshore locations, then transferred into a pumping ship which pipes it onto the beach.  Bulldozers then put the sand in place.  It’s a 24-hour a day operation.
