The Myrtle Beach community honored the sacrifice and heroism that followed the terrorist hijackings of September 11, 2001, with a remembrance ceremony at Warbird Park.  The Unity Memorial was relocated from 29th Avenue North to Warbird Park this summer, in time for the 20th anniversary of that awful day.   In its new location, the memorial is more visible and available to the public.  It features a steel beam from the North Tower of the World Trade Center, presented to Golf Holiday (Golf Tourism Solutions) on behalf of the Myrtle Beach community by a group of retired FDNY firefighters, who started the long-running FDNY 9-11 Memorial Golf Tournament on the Grand Strand.  Nearly 1,000 people were on hand for the ceremony, which included a poem about the beam and its new home, written and read by Paul Hickey, retired FDNY.  Thanks to all who attended and participated.
