New sidewalk handrails are being installed on five blocks of Ocean Boulevard to separate people on foot from those in a car. The powder-coated, wrought-iron-looking handrails not only keep people from stepping into the roadway, but they also provide visual cues about where the road stops and the sidewalk begins. Plus, they give the boulevard some style! The four foot high railings are being installed from Seventh Avenue South to 12th Avenue North. The transformation includes new trashcans, too. The project is expected to take several more weeks to complete, at a total cost of $1,000,000. These photos were shot in the early morning hours, after the construction team had left for the day. The work is being conducted overnight to avoid disrupting summertime traffic.
