The city’s Seniors Advisory Committee recently toured the Real Time Crime Unit at the Ted C. Collins Law Enforcement Center.  The Myrtle Beach Police Department has 1,034 cameras in place throughout the city to keep a watchful eye on streets, intersections, parks, city facilities and other public places.  The committee learned how effective the cameras are in tracking law-breakers and making arrests.  Many of the cameras also feature pan-tilt-and-zoom capabilities, allowing staff to focus on specific details as needed.
