Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium is busier than usual this spring, hosting five track-and-field meets. Last week’s Collegiate Challenge featured athletes from 26 schools in 11 states. Among women’s teams, Coastal Carolina University placed first with a score of 126. College of Charleston was second with 107, followed by Slippery Rock University with 102. For the men, CCU placed second behind Slippery Rock, which took first with a score of 126.5. CCU’s men scored 116. The Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational is March 16-18, with 1,600 athletes competing, followed by the Beach Run Invitational, a high school meet, on March 31 and April 1. Myrtle Beach then hosts two college conference championships – the Conference Carolinas NCAA Division II meet, April 28-29, followed by the Sun Belt Conference NCAA Division I Championship, May 11-13.
