The City of Myrtle Beach held a ceremony Thursday to raise six military service flags on the Boardwalk.  The idea to honor our military men and women in this way came from Fred Portway, an Horry County resident, and the city happily agreed.  Flags of the six military branches – Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard and Space Force – now fly on the outer six flag poles, while two taller center poles still fly the U.S. flag.  The Vietnam Veterans Association posted the colors and provided a rifle salute and Taps for the occasion.  Local veterans, including members of the Military Appreciation Committee, were on hand to raise their particular service branch’s flag.  By the way, the Space Force was officially designated the sixth US military service in December 2019.
