Classes and Activities

Canal Street Recreation Center

 
       

The following classes and activities are offered at Canal Street Recreation Center.  Pre-registration is required for all classes.  For more information, call Canal Street Recreation Center at 918-1465 or come by the center at 901 Canal Street and sign up! 

 

A.M. Fitness Program:  The ultimate workout and conditioning program for young men and women with disabilities and special needs.  This program will specialize in low impact aerobic and anaerobic workout stations and allows participants to work at their own pace.  The program will also offer group activities in the form of basketball, swimming, football, kick ball, hockey, weight lifting, soccer, and dodge ball.  Program runs through December 17.  Class will meet on Tuesday and Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Fees:  $5 City Resident / $8 Non City Resident

 

Early Bird Fitness Program:  The Early Bird Fitness Program is a one of a kind strength and conditioning program for adults 18 and older.  Workouts will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday and Wednesday.  All participants will have the opportunity to work on their own program goals with qualified instructors.  The fee is $12 for city residents and $20 for non-residents.  For more information call 918-1465 or email canalstreet@cityofmyrtlebeach.com.

 

Senior Bingo Returns to Canal Street:  Come enjoy Bingo on Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Recreation Center.  It’s free, but please bring a $1.00 prize for the prize table.

 

Operation:  “Give Back” Youth Mentor Program:  Canal Street Recreation Center is looking for men and women from the community to serve as mentors for our local youth.  This will be a great opportunity for all adults to “Give Back” to the community.  All mentors must pass a background check and receive 10 hours of mentor training.  For more information call 918-1465 or email docmoore@cityofmyrtlebeach.com.

 

P.M. Fitness Class:  PM Fitness Class is an after school workout program for young men and women between the ages of 14 and 17.  The class will serve as an introduction to weight lifting and cardio conditioning.  Class will meet Monday and Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.  Fees:  $10 City Resident / $17 Non City Resident.

 

Adult Co-ed Volleyball League:  The Adult Co-ed Volleyball League is for ages 18 and older.  All skill levels are welcome and you can sign up either as a team or individually.  Matches will be held on Monday and Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.  Fees:  $10 City Resident / $17 Non City Resident.

 

AQUATICS LESSONS AND PROGRAMS

 

Swim Classes:

      Session 2:  January 16 – March 1 (Registration begins December 17)

 

Pre-School Swim Classes

Age:  3 - 5 years

Fee:  $25.00 city resident/ $42.00 non-city resident

 

Youth Swim Classes
Age:  5˝-14 years
Fee:  $35.00 city resident/$58.00 non-city resident

 

Aqua Kids:

 

4:30 – 5:30 p.m., Monday and Wednesday

11:55 a.m. – 12:55 p.m., Saturday

 

Aqua Surge:  A non-stop, intense, interval style class which focuses on strength, core stability and cardio.  It is designed to challenge everyone, from the seasoned water exerciser, weekend warrior, cross-training athlete or the fitness challenged.  Come expecting to have fun, work hard, and maybe even get your hair wet.  Water shoes strongly recommended, but not required.  Class meets Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 12:00 – 12:45 p.m.  Drop-in fees are $5 for city residents, $8 for non-city residents or get an 18 visit punch card for $45 for city residents or $75 for non-city residents.

 

Jivin’ Joints:  A water exercise class designed for individuals with a form of arthritis or related condition.  Jivin’ Joints offers gentle range of motion and endurance activities under the guidance of an Arthritis Foundation trained instructor.  This class is suitable for “pre-hab:” or “re-hab” of hips and knees.  This class focuses on functional skills, core stability and balance.  Class meets Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m.  Drop-in fees are $5 for city residents, $8 for non-city residents or get an 18 visit punch card for $45 for city residents or $75 for non-city residents.
