Photos of the Week

Friday, November 6, 2009

Construction is well underway on Phase One of the Grand Park Master Plan, across from The Market Common, as illustrated in the photos below.  The first phase includes three fields of an eventual nine field complex (seven large fields and two small ones), new parking areas, and a two-story field house for restrooms, concessions and press boxes.  State-of-the-art artificial grass will cover the fields, which are designed to accommodate baseball, softball and soccer.  The Myrtle Beach Air Force Base Redevelopment Authority provided $6 million of the $6.5 million dollar budget.  As shown on the master plan below, the new recreation complex fills the space between Crabtree Memorial Gymnasium and the new Meyers Avenue.  (The aerial photo is from early September, while the remaining photos are from today.)  Construction on the first phase should be complete in March.  The city is searching for funding to complete the master plan.
