Our Training Unit is responsible for the upkeep of each officer’s specific training needs. Newly hired officers normally receive pre-service training by our Training Unit to prepare them academically and physically for the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. The training consists of classroom, practical problems, firearms, driving and physical fitness training. Once an officer becomes State Certified, that officer is required to receive a specific amount of training each year. Our Training Unit is responsible for providing that training for our officers as well as other officers from other departments in the surrounding area. Specialized schools are often offered to our officers by many different training facilities such as IPTM (Institute of Police Training and Management), PATC (Public Agency Training Council), Law Enforcement Training Solutions, 80/20 Advantage, and Regional Organized Crime Information Center (ROCIC). All Training Officers are certified instructors who have received specialized training from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. For more information on our Training Section, contact us at pdtraining@cityofmyrtlebeach.com or by phone at 843-918-1800.
