The growth of our city has caused an increase in the number of taxicabs operating within the City of Myrtle Beach. Several years ago, City Council amended the city ordinance regulating the taxicab industry. The Taxi Enforcement Officer is the primary enforcer of the taxi ordinance. Each taxicab must be inspected annually to ensure that the taxi meets the standards set forth by ordinance. The ordinance also mandates that the officer conduct random inspections on the taxicabs throughout the year. There are over 100 certified cabs operating within the City of Myrtle Beach. The Taxi Enforcement Officer also issues a Chauffeur’s Permit to the driver of each taxicab. This permit must be in the driver’s possession and displayed while he/she is operating the taxicab. This permit allows a driver to pick-up a fare within the City of Myrtle Beach while driving a certified taxicab. If you are interested in obtaining a Taxi Certificate or a Chauffeur’s Permit, some links have been provided below assist you with the proper procedures.
