The purpose of the Gang
Enforcement Unit (GEU) is to help address the issues associated with
gang activity in the community. The GEU is responsible for developing
programs related to gang prevention, intervention and education. The
unit provides training to Myrtle Beach Police Department officers and
officers from surrounding departments, as well as school administrators
and teachers. The GEU also makes educational presentations to civic
groups and neighborhood associations. The GEU helps to identify and investigate gang-related activities in the community. This includes gathering intelligence and providing assistance to other units in the Myrtle Beach Police Department that are investigating gang-related offenses. The GEU also helps design programs that provide alternatives to gang membership or assistance in getting out of a gang. For more information and frequently asked questions on gangs, please visit our Gang 101 page. The below state statutes have recently been passed by our state legislature as an effort to deter and punish criminal activity committed by gang members. To read these statutes in their entirety, you can go to this Internet site, which contains all current SC laws and statutes: http://www.scstatehouse.net/code/statmast.htm
