     The Myrtle Beach Police Department has several specialized divisions that provide officers the opportunity to diversify their skills.  These include Criminal Investigations, Vice/Narcotics, Traffic Enforcement, Beach Patrol, Bicycle Patrol, Crime Prevention, Special Operations, Detention/Dispatch, Administration and more.  Currently, the police department is accepting applications for Police Officer.

POLICE OFFICER – Police Department.  Performs responsible protective service work in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances with required related work. This position requires graduation from high school or GED equivalency, 21 years old to comply with SC Law Enforcement Council entrance requirements and possession of a valid driver’s license.  It also requires a thorough background investigation.  SC Criminal Justice Certification and experience as a Police Officer is preferred.  REQUIRED:  Completed Standard Application, Supplemental application along with required documents as outlined in the document section, Statement of Honesty, Physical Agility Test & Score Sheet, and Personal History Questionnaire.  Resumes accepted only with completed application package.  Certified police officers, review & sign Authorization to Release Information Form.  Starting Salary:  $29,963/year, plus benefits (non-certified); $32,738year, plus benefits (SC certified).  Application deadline:  5:00 p.m., June 2, 2008

All Police Officers, Detention Officers and Telecommunicators must complete Basic Law Enforcement Training as mandated by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety. For information on transferring certifications from another state, please read the Police Officer Candidate Process form.  Upon completion of the Basic Law Enforcement course, officers will be assigned to a specific division with a Field Training Officer. All new Police, Detention, and TCO employees must complete a twelve- (12) month probationary period. Periodic in-service training will also be given to employees on a regular basis.
