Corner Icon Zoning Code Re-Write...  The Planning Commission and staff worked more than a year to revise and update the city's entire Zoning Code.  The draft re-write updates the zones to reflect existing and potential uses.   


Corner Icon Comprehensive Plan...  In February 2011, City Council approved the 10-year update of  the 20-year Comprehensive Plan, which addresses issues such as growth, housing, neighborhoods, historic properties, cultural arts, natural resources and transportation.

The Planning Department formulates recommended goals, plans, policies and ordinances that provide orderly growth and development for Myrtle Beach. The department also assists in preparing a capital improvement program.  Call 843-918-1050 for more information.

Experienced planners are available to help with rezoning, annexation, subdivision of property, park design and neighborhood planning.  Everyone is invited to attend Planning Commission meetings to learn about the many activities underway in Myrtle Beach. 

The following applications and forms will be helpful.

An annexation guide also is available for nearby property owners who wish to consider bringing their land into the city limits.  It explains the methods and benefits of annexation and provides additional contact information. 

 

New in September 2010 is publication of the 10 Year Collaborative Plan to End Homelessness in Horry County (PDF).  This plan is a product of Home Alliance, Inc., with support from the cities of Myrtle Beach and Conway and Horry County government.  The plan examines the needs and resources of the county in seeking solutions to homelessness. 

 

The Planning Department is located in City Hall, 937 Broadway Street.  The Planning Commission's regular meeting is held at 1:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month in the First Floor Conference Room of City Hall.  Here is the Planning Commission's meeting and submittal schedule for 2012.  Dates and times are subject to change with proper notification.
