Myrtle Beach will have a new recreation center in about two months, when the Grand Strand YMCA on 62nd Avenue North, west of US 17, is complete.  The $7 million facility is scheduled to open on or about October 1.  The YMCA raised the money to build the center on a 12-acre, city-owned site.  On three of the 12 acres, the city built a fenced, off-leash dog park with areas for small and large dogs.  To reach the new YMCA, the city extended 62nd Avenue North as a four-lane road with an adjacent multi-purpose path.  Thanks to the partnership, city residents will receive a 20 percent discount on YMCA membership.  The photos below show the new portion of 62nd Avenue North, the YMCA under construction, the fenced areas for small and large dogs, and a walking trail to the East Coast Greenway.
