Several hundred children and parents attended this week's wrap-up event for the Make A Splash and Make Waves summer reading programs at Chapin Memorial Library.  The ballroom at the Base Recreation Center was full of fun and excitement.  A local performing troupe, the Blue Tie Guys, entertained the crowd with comedy skits and juggling acts.  Kids also enjoyed face painting, popcorns and refreshments.  Make A Splash children who read at least 15 hours and Make Waves teens who read at least 25 hours this summer received medals for their accomplishment.  Nearly 700 young people signed up for the programs and already have read nearly 8,300 hours so far this summer.  Chapin Memorial Library is owned and operated by the City of Myrtle Beach.
