Last weekend, Myrtle Beach again hosted the South Carolina Firefighters' Convention, including the annual Firefighter Combat Challenge, where teams of firefighters from departments across the state competed in a relay event at Broadway at the Beach.  Among other things, firefighters had to climb a tower carrying a heavy bundle of hose, haul a coiled hose to the top of the tower, descend again and use a sledge hammer to drive a metal sled, rush to the far end and haul a fire hose back, and then drag a human-sized training dummy back.  It's hard, hot work under ideal conditions, but temperatures that Friday were in the mid-90s, which made the Combat Challenge even more demanding.
