Six Republican presidential candidates took part in a nationally televised debate from the Myrtle Beach Convention Center on Thursday, January 10. Giant likenesses of the candidates' heads were sculpted in sand on Oak Street. The Convention Center also hosted the media file room, where hundreds of reporters gathered, and the "spin room," where post-debate interviews occurred. Less than an hour after the debate, Convention Center staff were already disassembling the set and rolling up the red carpet to make room for the building's next event. The Democratic presidential candidates arrive in Myrtle Beach for a debate of their own, January 21, at the Palace Theatre.
