The City of Myrtle Beach offers several ways of applying for positions through electronic means.  Please follow all instructions.  You may wish to print this page for future reference. 

ALL POSITIONS EXCEPT POLICE  (follow instructions with care)

New!  You now can complete an electronic on-line application for the City of Myrtle Beach.  Or, you may download, print and mail your application (see below) to PO Box 2468, Myrtle Beach, SC 29578. Please note that an application which is mailed for a job with deadline must be postmarked by 5:00 p.m. on the stated the deadline day.  See our Benefits Brochure for details about what the city offers its employees or visit us in person at 921 North Oak Street, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577.  

If you don't complete the electronic on-line application, then download and complete the Standard Application to apply for open positions.  You may then print the completed application and send it by U.S. Mail to the Human Resources Department, P. O. Box 2468, Myrtle Beach, SC  29578.  Or, you may deliver documents in person to the Human Resources Department, 921-A Oak Street.  Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

ALL POLICE DEPARTMENT POSITIONS  Police Officer, Detention Officer, Communications Officer, Community Service Officer, Records Clerk or any clerical position with the Police Department   

Please download the standard application, along with the other required forms listed below, and mail the completed documents to us at PO Box 2468, Myrtle Beach, SC 29578, postmarked by the deadline, or drop by our office at 921 N Oak St., MB, SC 29577.  

Please download and complete the Word or PDF files containing the Standard Application, the Supplementary Application and the Importance of Honesty document and submit these with the other documents indicated below.  A detailed explanation of the Police Officer hiring process is available.  All applicants must review and sign the Authorization to Release Information.

  • Legible copy of Birth Certificate

  • Transcripts from High School or a legible copy of High School Diploma, G.E.D. certificate, or proof that it has been requested.

  • Certified Driver's History for the past 10 years in all states where applicant has been licensed. (If record is not immediately available, attach proof of application for same, such as a copy of the completed form or written letter of request to the State’s DMV)

  • Complete Credit History is required from one of the three major credit bureaus listed below.  We will not accept a credit score in lieu of a full credit report or a credit report from any other company except those listed below.  Credit reports are available at no charge from

  • For out of state certified police officers, military and/or federal candidates with prior law enforcement training, certification and employment, the following documents are required.  It is not mandatory that these forms be returned with your application; however, they must be submitted prior to any hire date with our department. 

    1.   Certificate of Completion (Basic Training Course Certificate)

    2.   Curriculum/Syllabus showing hours and topics of training (Must be official document from academy/military training)

    3.   Indication that a Letter of Good Standing has been requested for Federal/Military candidates.

  • Physical Agility Test & Score Sheet (Police Officer, Detention Officer and Community Service Officer only)PDF  The physical agility course will be conducted immediately following the National Police Officer Selection Test (Police) or Nelson Denny Test (Detention).  Please be dressed in running/jogging attire.  Shorts are permitted, but not recommended.  The physical agility course must be completed within 2:06 minutes or less (Police only).  Not meeting the time limit (Police only) or not completing the physical agility course (Police, Detention and Community Service Officer) will result in disqualification. 

South Carolina Certified Officers (Class I and Class II):


Myrtle Beach is currently accepting applications from South Carolina certified Police (Class I) and Detention Officers (Class II).  In-state certified officers can take advantage of the pre-certified hiring process and apply for a transfer to police or detention officer.  To be eligible you must:

  • Be a graduate of the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy

  • Possess a current and valid SCCJA Class I or Class II certification: Class I Police Officer, Patrol Deputy, Trooper, or Class II Detention Officer

  • Successfully pass all phases of our hiring process to include:

National Police Officer Selection Test (Police) or Nelson Denny (Detention)

Physical Agility Test

Background Investigation

Interview with Chief of Police 

Medical and Psychological exam

  • Candidates must complete an expedited Pre-Service Training and a shortened Field Training Program (FTO) before being released for duty

  • Interested candidates should submit a complete application to include (see requirements for Police Applications above for additional details):
