Rail cars work begins in Myrtle Beach

Work is set to begin on the rail cars parked outside the Myrtle Beach Train Depot.

The city has hired BEC Construction to convert a boxcar and a caboose into usable space. The boxcar will become a meeting room, while the caboose will be turned into a catering kitchen. The train track also will be elevated and stabilized.

The depot is on the National Register of Historic Places and is frequently used for meetings, events, parties and more. Because the original building ...didn’t have a kitchen, we can’t add one directly, but we can include one in an adjacent railroad car.
