Myrtle Beach is a full-service community, and then some. The city provides the complete range of traditional municipal functions. These include police and fire protection, water and sewer service, solid waste and recycling collection, planning and zoning services, and parks and recreational opportunities.
But Myrtle Beach offers quite a few extras, too. For example, the city has nine-and-a-half miles of public beach, a municipal golf course, a convention center, the only city-owned public library in the state, and a baseball stadium. We also welcome literally millions of visitors each year, who come to enjoy the wide range of activity and entertainment available here. The City of Myrtle Beach adheres to the Council-Manager form of government. A seven-member city council includes six council members and a mayor, all elected at-large and for staggered terms. City Council hires the City Manager, who is the chief executive officer for the city. City Council also appoints numerous boards, commissions and committees to assist with the work of governing the city. Our residents and guests have come to expect a high level of service from the City of Myrtle Beach. It's 800 staff members frequently exceed expectations for efficiency, promptness, courtesy and dedication to duty. We take the "first in service" philosophy seriously and hope the information on these pages is helpful. Your participation is encouraged, and we welcome your questions and comments. © Copyright 2004, The City of Myrtle Beach. All rights reserved. |
