Solid Waste Collection Schedule

Public Works Department

SOLID WASTE COLLECTION ZONES:

The city is divided into four collection zones to improve solid waste services for our residential customers.  With this schedule, one zone receives complete service each day, Monday through Thursday. All household garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky junk are picked up on the same day each week.  The zone system streamlines the process for the customer, too, because all solid waste will be placed curbside on the same day. (Click here for holiday collection schedules.)

WHICH ZONE AND DAY ARE MINE?

Zone 1 = Monday

Zone 1 begins at the southern end of Myrtle Beach and extends north to Third Avenue South and Highway 501. Zone 1 includes both sides of Third Avenue South.

Zone 2 = Tuesday

Zone 2 begins north of Third Avenue South and extends to 38th Avenue North. It includes both sides of 38th Avenue North.

Zone 3 = Wednesday

Zone 3 begins north of 38th Avenue North and extends to 62nd Avenue North and North Highland Way. Zone 3 includes both sides of 62nd Avenue North and North Highland Way, as well as Sancindy Lane.

Zone 4 = Thursday

Zone 4 begins north of 62nd Avenue North and extends to the northern city limits.

Roll-out containers must be placed at curbside by 6:00 a.m. on day of service and removed from curbside no later than 11:00 p.m. on service day.   The Solid Waste Division also operates a solid waste transfer station on 10th Avenue North Extension.  Containerized Yard Waste may be bagged (not to exceed 50 lbs.) or in roll-out containers. Do not mix yard waste with household refuse.  No residential solid waste services will be provided on Friday.  For service assistance, dial (843) 918-2000.

BULKY YARD WASTE:

If you have too much bulky waste to wait for the weekly pick up, call 918-2160, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., for a collection appointment.

RECYCLING:  Blue Bins

Due to improvements in the local recycling process, the Horry County Solid Waste Authority and the City of Myrtle Beach are changing to reusable blue bins for residential recycling.  Residents who currently recycle will receive a free blue bin on their regular collection day.  Other residents who wish to recycle may call 918-2160 to request a free blue bin.  Customers who recycle large quantities or who prefer the convenience of a rollout cart may purchase a 48 gallon recycling container for $30.  Contact the city’s Solid Waste Division at 918-2160 for more information.

Do not separate or bag recyclables.  Simply place clean recycling materials into the blue bin, and then place the bin on the curb on your regular collection day.  Sorting is accomplished at the Solid Waste Authority’s new Material Recycling Facility on Highway 90.  (Note:  Shredded paper should be placed in a clear plastic bag, then placed into the bin.  Otherwise, do not sort, separate or bag any items.)  Recyclable materials include aluminum, steel, tin and aerosol cans; glass jars and bottles of any color; plastic jugs, bottles and containers; cardboard and paperboard; newspapers, magazines and junk mail.  Materials that cannot be accepted include sheet glass, mirrors, light bulbs, ceramic items and wax-coated boxes.  The blue bins are for recycling materials only. Non-recyclable items will be considered contamination and will cause the bins not to be emptied.

BULKY JUNK ITEMS:  Furniture, appliances and miscellaneous items

Call 918-2160, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., for a collection appointment.
