Pepper Geddings Recreation Center, corner of Oak Street and 33rd Avenue North, features a well equipped weight room with free weights and machines; a cardio room with treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, stair climbers and more; an indoor track; a 25-yard swimming pool with six lanes and diving boards; a shallow pool; and two gymnasiums equipped with eight basketball goals, pickleball and volleyball equipment, and a number of other functions.  For more information, call 843-918-2280 or come by the center!

Volleyball
Open Play Volleyball on Tuesdays from 1:00 p.m. -3:30 p.m. Open to all players and anyone who enjoys the game. Free for members, $3 for seniors, $5 for adults.

9 Week Health and Recreation Program that focuses on fun, fitness, and activities at Pepper Geddings and at our other recreation facilities. All participants will compete to gain the most activity points. The winners will receive vouchers to be used at Pepper Geddings.

Program Includes... An Unlimited Membership to City Recreation Centers; Unlimited Fitness Classes at Pepper Geddings and Aquatic Classes at both Pepper Geddings & Mary C. Canty; Team Meetings; Camaraderie; Competition; Volunteer Opportunities throughout the Program to include the Myrtle Beach Marathon and Collections for Helping Hand.

City Residents- $75
(add a family member for $25)
Non-City Residents $130

Pepper Geddings also offers a Start Smart program for children, ages three to six.  The program is designed to prepare young children for organized sports.  

Start Smart – Preschool Sports Readiness Program is a proven instructional program that prepares children for the world of organized sports without the threat of competition or the fear of getting hurt.  Parents work together with their children in a supportive environment to learn all of the basic skills…throwing, catching & kicking.

The following classes and activities are offered and pre-registration required.  Pepper Geddings Recreation Center reserves the right to cancel a class that does not meet minimum enrollment numbers.  A full refund will be provided for any class canceled.  Cannot find a class or activity to suit your needs?  Call 843-918-2280.

Destination 5k Walk, run, go! 

 

The Destination 5K program is a 7-week learn to walk, or run/walk program designed for the true beginner. By the time each participant crosses the finish line of  The International Drive Road 5K (3.1 mile) Race, (held Sunday 4/28), team members will have learned the importance of proper form, stretching, and hydration- all the tools needed to maintain their new fitness routine.  *The program begins with a required informational meeting and Functional Movement Screening on Monday, February 18th at 10:00 a.m.

 

CREATIVE CORNER
Make new friends, have fun, and express your creativity and personal style. Our class selection will be varied one- class sessions. (with the exception of a clay creation project, which will be 2 sessions).

  • Art supplies will be provided.
  • Feel free to pack a snack or lunch to enjoy while you connect and create!

  1.    Monday, January 7, 2019- This Beginner Watercolor painting lesson will help you find your own unique painting style using different color mixing and application techniques.
  2.   Monday, January 14, 2019- This Acrylic painting session will introduce the novice painter to the forgiving qualities of acrylic paint and allow them to experiment with a variety of techniques.
  3.  Monday, January 21, 2019- CLOSED, Martin Luther King Holiday
  4.  Monday, January 28, 2019- Clay Creations, Part 1-If you're thinking about taking up pottery but don't have a lot of money or space for a pottery wheel you will learn techniques on how to hand form air-dry clay.

ADULT & SENIOR FITNESS CLASSES

The following classes are part of our fitness schedule!  All classes are held at the Pepper Geddings Recreation Center, 3205 Oak Street.

Get your 24-visit punch card at the front desk.  Punch cards cost $28 for city residents or $50 for non-city residents.  The card allows 24 visits to any of the following classes listed below.  The Fitness Punch Cards can be used at all city recreation facilities and do not expire.  City residents pay $4 per class and non-city residents pay $10 per class.   All classes are held at the Pepper Geddings Recreation Center, 3205 Oak Street.

B Fit Jam**:  It’s your JAM in this class! At each station, you will work with a fitness tool that begins with a ‘B’ (balls, bars, bands, etc.) to meet your personal strength challenge.

Basic Strength and Cardio Training*: Learn the basics of strength training and cardio exercise using the machines and equipment in the weight room and cardio room combined.

Ball Body Sculpt**: Reshape your body with exercises that will simultaneously firm and tighten your physique, align your spine, and flatten your tummy using a stability ball, tubes, and/or hand weights.

Ballet Stretch*:  Enjoy a gentle flow of beginner ballet techniques that combine balance, stretching and toning.

QiGong*:  Pronounced (CHEE-GONG), this exercise is gentle, with slow movement, deep breathing, and meditation.

Recess*: Enjoy games and activities just like you did in school. Have fun, get active, and be a kid again!

Tabata***:  This high-intensity interval training workout is designed to perform 20 seconds of exercise with 10 seconds of rest.
Wednesdays:  5:30 to 6:15 p.m., with Kelly

Total Abs**:  Focuses on exercises that work your abdominal muscles and obliques.

Total Body Circuit**: Stations are set up and designed to focus on total body fitness training, cardio, and core strengthening.

Walk the Plank**: Ahoy Mateys! All aboard for a cardio and strength training workout that includes various forms of planking and walking. This class includes going up and down stairs.

Weight Training**:  Increase strength and sculpt your whole body using the weight room resistance machines.       Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 9:00 to 9:45 a.m., with Nick

Yoga**: Postures are used to align, strengthen and promote flexibility in the body. Breathing techniques and meditation help to create full-body relaxation and balance.

Yoga Release & Flow**:  A variety of postures and Vinyasa movement that will strengthen your whole body and heighten your mind-body connection.
