Mary C. Canty Recreation Center offers recreational opportunities for all ages, with a gymnasium, weight room, swimming pool, game rooms, playgrounds and a banquet hall with kitchen and ice machine.  Youth sports, after-school youth programs and special events also are available.  Choose from annual, monthly or daily membership options.

HOURS OF OPERATION

Monday through Thursday:  8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Friday:  8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Saturday:  10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Sunday:  1:00 to 6:00 p.m.

The Mary C. Canty Recreation Center’s gymnasium and swimming pool are closed for renovations until further notice.  Please use the Pepper Geddings Recreation Center or Crabtree Memorial Gymnasium.  The pool at Mary C. Canty also is closed while a $2.4 million renovation of the building is underway.  Thanks for your patience!

PROGRAMS

9th Annual Back 2 School Block Party: 
The Back 2 School Block Party will take place Saturday, August 11th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Mt. Olive Multipurpose field on 1108 Carver Street Myrtle Beach.  Ages 4 - 18 must be present to participate in the backpack and school supply giveaway. 

All Sports Training Regimen:  This sports training program is designed for athletes, ages 11 to 17.  The training is intense, consisting of a variety of strength and conditioning exercises.  The program also incorporates agility drills, flexibility stations, individual sports fundamentals and mental and physical toughness.  The program is conducted by a National Exercise Trainers Associate certified trainer.  The program takes place every Tuesday and Thursday, March 6 through May 8, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Mary C. A.M. (Always Motivated) Fitness Program:  The “A.M. Fitness” program is a low impact fitness program designed for individuals with disabilities and special needs.  The A.M. Fitness program gives all participants the opportunity to experience a total body workout and take part in a positive group activity.  The program takes place on Tuesday and Thursday, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Fees are $10 for City Residents and $20 for Non-City Residents.  Registration begins December 27, 2017, and ends February 2, 2018.  The program begins February 6, 2018, and ends May 22, 2018.  For more program information, contact the Mary C. Circuits in the City:  This high-intensity circuit training class makes you sweat and pushes you to new limits!  Classes consist of weights, plyometric, cardio and resistance training.  Classes meet 1:00 to 1:45 p.m., every Tuesday and Thursday, at Mary C. Canty Recreation Center.  Drop-In Fees are $4 for City Residents and $10 for Non-City Residents.  Punch Cards are also available!  Punch cards cost $28 for City Residents and $50 for Non-City Residents.  For more information, contact Jonah Lanham at 843-918-1469 or jlanham@cityofmyrtlebeach.com.

Coastal Communities Unite:  Don’t miss this community program designed to provide fun, safe and quality activities for children, ages five through 12.  Participants will have the opportunity to play kickball, flag football, dodgeball, soccer and other activities.  The free program is 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the various Saturdays (June 9, July 7, July 14, July 28 and August 11).  Questions?  Contact Edwin Boyzo at 843-918-1472 or eboyzo@cityofmyrtlebeach.com for more information and specific information regarding locations.

SUMMER PROGRAMS


Arena Football League:  This summer flag football league program gives youth, ages six to 12, the opportunity to enhance their football skills and develop the necessary fundamentals for the game of tackle football.  Registration for Arena Football at Mary C. Canty Recreation Center begins Tuesday, May 1.  Mini Camps are set for 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, June 11-14.  Games take place from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. The league begins Monday, June 25.  Fee is $10 for City Residents and $20 for Non-City Residents.  For more information, call Mary C. Canty Recreation Center at 843-918-1472.

Summer Youth Basketball League:  This league focuses on the fundamentals of basketball.  The program highlights positive sportsmanship, leadership, discipline and team work.  Registration begins Tuesday, May 1, and continues through Friday, June 15.  Training Camp is set for 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, June 18-24.  Games take place 12:00 to 3:00 p.m., every Tuesday and Thursday.  For more information, call Mary C. Summer Teen Basketball League:  This program helps youth, ages 13 to 17, learn the fundamentals of basketball.  It teach the importance of sportsmanship, leadership, discipline and teamwork within the game.  Registration begins Tuesday, May 1, and continues through Friday, June 15.  Training camp is 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, June 18-21.  The season begins Tuesday, June 26.  Games take place from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursdays.  For more information, call 843-918-1475.

Teen Coaching 101 (ages 13-18):  Calling all teenagers, ages 13-18, who have an interest in coaching!  This program aims to get teenagers involved by serving as youth coaches for basketball and flag football.  Participants receive training about coaching, conducting drills, creating practice plans and developing positive leadership.  As youth coaches, they receive work and leadership experience, a monthly dinner, coach’s room with refreshments and a special bonus at  the season's end.  Registration is May 1-June 1.  The coaching program is 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.,  Monday through Thursday beginning June 4.  Game schedules will be determined at a later time.  For more information, contact Edwin Boyzo at eboyzo@cityofmyrtlebeach.com or 843-918-1472.


BANQUET HALL

Mary C.
