Corner Icon  History Museum Canal Street Recreation Center's annual museum of African American history opens Wednesday, February 1, as part of Black History Month activities.  The display offers an in-depth look at the contributions of African American inventors, doctors, scientists, artists, athletes, writers and others.  The museum is open during regular center hours. 


Corner Icon Swimming lessons for all ages...  Registration is underway for American Red Cross swim lessons at Pepper Geddings and Canal Street  Recreation Centers.  Classes are available for ages six months and up.  See the Aquatics page for details. 


Corner Icon  Myrtle Beach also offers Youth Programs and Youth Sports through its recreation programs.  Youth Programs include after-school and summer programs.  Youth Sports include baseball, softball, football, basketball and cheerleading.

Canal Street Recreation Center offers recreational opportunities for all ages, with a gymnasium, weight room, swimming pool, game rooms, playgrounds and a banquet hall with kitchen and ice machine.  Youth sports, after-school youth programs and special events also are available.  Choose from annual, monthly or daily membership options. 

 

The following classes and activities are available, with pre-registration  required.  For more information, call Canal Street Recreation Center at 843-918-1465 or come by the center and sign up!  The center is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Sunday from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. 

 

All Sports Training Regimen:  The best conditioning program on the grand strand for young men and women ages 12 – 17.  This program will consist of cross training, speed and agility drills, ply metrics, and resistance training.  Classes will be on Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., beginning March 7 with a workout evaluation and body analysis and will run through April 30 at the Canal Street Recreation Center.  Registration is still open.  Fees: $10 City Resident/$17 Non- City Resident, $1 Daily Attendance. College Road Trip Program:  Calling all high school students! Are you making plans for your future? If so, we have the program for you.  The College Road Trip  gives rising freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors the opportunity to visit a college campus, talk to professors and students, get assistance with the SAT and ACT,  have lunch on campus and talk with academic advisors. The program will meet on Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Canal Street Recreation Center beginning March 14 and ending May 12.  All “College Road Trips” will take place on Saturdays. Space is limited; only 10 spots available!  Registration is still open.  Fees: $10 City Residents/$17 Non-City Residents.  For more information, contact Docshee Moore at 918-1475. 

Old School vs. New School Basketball League:  A basketball league that gives youth the opportunity to learn and compete with veteran basketball players.  Games days begin March 30 on Mondays and Wednesdays.  Registration is underway.  Fees for youth are $15 City Resident/$20 Non-Resident.  Fees for adults are $25 City Resident/$33 Non-City Resident.    For more information contact Antonio Sullivan at 918-1469.

Ship into Shape: This is a high intensity water workout program.  The program will consist of cardio drills in the pool.  Classes will meet beginning January 9 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:00 – 1:45 p.m. Drop-In Fees $4 City Resident/$7 Non-City Resident.  Punch Cards can be used, fees $30.00 City Resident/$50.00 Non-City Resident.  For more information contact Antonio Sullivan at 918-1469.

15 Minute Abs with Cardio:  This is a high intensity workout that will focus on core strength and cardio. Class will meet Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00 – 1:30 pm. and 6:00 – 6:30 p.m., beginning January 10.  Drop – In Fees: $4 City Resident / $7 Non-City Resident.  Punch Cards can be used, fees $30.00 City Resident/$50.00 Non-City Resident.  For more information contact Antonio Sullivan at 918-1469.

 

Senior Bingo:  Bingo, anyone?  Come play every Tuesday beginning October 4, 2011 through April 12, 2012 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. There is no charge, but please bring a dollar prize for the prize table!

BANQUET HALL

Canal Street Recreation Center's banquet hall can hold up to 300 people and can be divided into smaller spaces.  A full kitchen is available.  For more information about reserving the banquet hall for your next event, call the center at 843- 918-1465.  Here are photos of the hall decorated and undecorated.
