Tom Leath, City Manager

 

             Myrtle Beach operates under the Council-Manager form of government, in which the City Council sets policy and hires a full-time professional city manager as chief executive officer to oversee day-to-day operations of the city and its staff.  Tom Leath is the City Manager.  For service assistance dial (843) 918-1012.

     The City Manager's Office includes the City Clerk, the Office of Budget and Evaluation, the Public Information Office and the Risk Management Office.  John Pedersen and Ron Andrews are the Assistant City Managers.  Myrtle Beach has approximately 780 full-time employees.

     The City Clerk is ex-officio clerk of the city council. The clerk shall give notices of meetings, post the agenda, attend regular and special meetings, record votes of council, keep minutes of council meetings and perform such other duties as may be assigned by the city manager.  Joan Grove is the City Clerk.  For service assistance dial (843) 918-1004.

     The Office of Budget and Evaluation is responsible for producing the city’s budget and other financial documents each year, as well as overall financial planning for the city and debt management for capital improvement projects.  Mike Shelton is the Budget Director.   For service assistance dial (843) 918-1126.

     The Public Information Office issues news releases, responds to media inquiries and provides background information on city services, programs and projects. The office publishes a monthly and quarterly newsletters and an annual report, and serves as webmaster for the City of Myrtle Beach home page. The department also programs and manages MBTV, Channel 15 on the Time Warner Cable System.  City Council meetings are broadcast live on this channel.      The Risk Management Office is responsible for the protection of the assets of the City against losses, which may adversely affect its operation and continuity of services. This is done through a program of identifying and assessing hazards and loss exposures and by selecting the best technique to avoid, control, assume or transfer the risk. The Risk Management Office manages the insurance program, including the workers compensation program, employee safety training, safety committees, environmental safety, accident investigation and emergency protocols.
